About
Christine McLeod, Artist

Hi there! I’m Christine McLeod, a Calgary, Alberta oil painter who loves to bring pops of colour and a playful touch to my paintings.
I’m inspired by the often-overlooked beauty in ordinary, everyday objects and by the deep connections between people and their animal friends. Having loved two dogs myself, I know the profound joy (and eventual heartbreak) that being a pet parent can bring. But I always say, if you want unconditional love, get a dog!
Like many others, my path to becoming an artist wasn’t exactly straight forward. After waitressing for many years, I studied Computer Information Systems, as it seemed like a sensible and practical option for a career. But deep down, I always dreamed of being an artist. It sounds weird, but I knew I was a painter long before I ever picked up a brush! It wasn’t until 2007, after taking a drawing class through the City of Calgary, that I finally decided to listen to my creative heart.
Since then, I’ve taken continuing education classes at ACAD (now Alberta University of the Arts), participated in numerous workshops, and have been mentored by esteemed artists at Mastrius. Oil paints are my go-to medium, but I also enjoy working with acrylics, pastels, and printmaking.
